LibGuide Accessibility

This guide offers direction on creating accessible LibGuides at EFSC.

Working with Images

Images
  • If possible only include images that advance meaning.

  • If decorative text is used, it should be described as decorative image in the alt-text field.

  • Alt-text should be succinct and descriptive.

  • Screen readers announce images, so avoid using redundant language such as "graphic of" or "image of".

  • Complex images, such as graphs and charts need alt-text or descriptive captioning. Guidance for complex images is available on the Webaim.org website.

Videos
  • Videos must have captioning.

  • EFSC guidelines call for 98% accuracy of captioning.

Tables
  • Tables are for tabular data only, don't use them for page layout.

  • Tables must have row and/or column headings.

  • Tables must read from left to right and top to bottom.
