LibGuide Accessibility

This guide offers direction on creating accessible LibGuides at EFSC.

Font and Text

Font

  • Selecting Heading or Normal for the font matters.   Screen readers view headings as section markers.  The body of text should use Normal, not Heading categories.

  • Use san serif fonts only.   The fonts offered for LibGuides are generally san serif, except for Georgia and Times New Roman.

  • EFSC recommends that 12 pt font is the minimum text size. Headings should be at least 2 pts higher than the body.

    • Example: This section uses 14 pt font Normal text and Heading 4 at 16 pt.

Text Color and Effects

  • Screen readers do not announce text color.  Use either italics or bold style in addition to color when emphasizing text sections.

  • Do not use flicker, flashing or animated fonts or text features.
