Citation Resources

The most common citation styles are APA, MLA, and CMS, each is used in different disciplines. Check with your instructor for the preferred citation format.

  • APA Style is produced by the American Psychological Association and is used primarily in the social sciences.
  • Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) is used in some humanities areas including history and religion.   The style guide is produced by the University of Chicago Press.
  • MLA Style is managed by the Modern Language Association and is also used in the humanities, especially language studies and art.
