A website is like a stranger: look for credentials!

When you are examining the content from a website, there are some things to look for to identify the credibility of the content.

1)  Domain: [.gov] and [.edu] are most trustworthy.

2)  Official websites, national and international organizations, and similar entities are possibly credible.

3)  Author(s): If it’s an individual, make sure the person has credentials and professionalism.

If it’s an organization, make sure there is an address and that it is a legitimate

   organization.

*a webmaster is usually not the author of the content.

4)  Citations: If the content has citations, it might be credible.

5)  About us/Contact us: Look to see who owns the website.

6)  Wikipedia and similar sites are not credible: no authorship and no professionalism.

7)  YouTube videos must be evaluated as some may not be credible.

8)  Ask!  If you have doubts as to the credibility of the content, ask your professor or librarian.
